Director and screenwriter Julian Fort posted the following to Facebook after his win for Best Screenplay:
“Hello Internet – I just got back from the 2017 Phoenix Film Festival where I’m overjoyed to report that The Midnighters picked up the best screenplay award! It was truly an honor to be at a festival that treats it’s filmmakers so kindly. Everyone of our 3 shows were full of true movie fans who reacted overwhelmingly to the picture! You could just feel it in the room that the movie worked! Having put so much of myself into it, I was truly moved by the response. It was also an honor to share the experience with Adam Carl, Gregory Sims, John Wesley, Stuart McLean, Paul McIlvaine, Leilani Leszkay, Sara Richland and Paul Osborne. The Midnighters wants to thank Jason Carney and the entire PFF staff for their love of movies and all their fantastically hard work.”
“The Midnighters is an impressive first attempt at a full-length feature film creating a true crime thriller. Great editing, skillful direction, and a more than competent cast elevate this film to a competitive level.”
“Frequently funny, often sad, The Midnighters is never tedious; it is too full of gallows suspense.”
